Stick Out Your Tongue

The test I recommend to all my patients, everyday, is the salivary pH. This can measure the amounts of acidity or alkalinity in body fluids. Our cells function better when they are in a slightly alkaline environment. A ph of 7.0 is considered neutral. A value of less than 7.0 is considered acidic and one of more than 7.0 is alkaline. Our cells work best when they are in an environment of a pH between 7.36 and 7.40, or slightly alkaline. Prolonged acidity levels are counterproductive because acid corrodes the body like the acid from a car battery corrodes its metal terminals connecting it to the car. When you are acid, disease flourishes, and when you are alkaline, disease dissapears.

A simple way of measuring the body acid levels is by using the salivary pH. Saliva should always be alkaline, otherwise the teeth and gums start corroding slowly. A pH measuring paper is given to all our patients to measure the saliva pH by wetting it. If it turns dark blue, it indicates an alkalinity of 7.4 which indicates we are in a healthy state, and the body and the immune system are in a healthy environment. If it turns yellow or green, the saliva is acidic and the body fluids are as well. Alkalinity in the saliva is also an indirect indicator of good antioxidant content in the body. This is the test I most often use with my patients since they can follow themselves without having to visit me for blood tests. It also indicates if they are taking enough supplements and whether or not they are effective.
